The prequel will trace the origins of the centuries-old blood feud between the aristocratic vampires and their onetime slaves, the Lycans (werewolves). In the Dark Ages, a young Lycan named Lucian (Sheen) emerges as a powerful leader who rallies the werewolves to rise up against Viktor (Nighy), the cruel vampire king who has enslaved them. Lucian is joined by his secret lover, Viktor’s daughter Sonja (Mitra), in his battle against the Death Dealer army and his struggle for Lycan freedom.
Sorry this one is kinda late movie lovers…but I’ve been a bit busy. I was completely stoked about going to see this one…I loved the first two and to have another movie continue to build on the back story was exciting.
The plot of this movie has been set up pretty much from the beginning movie…they did a good job sticking with the story line pretty dead on. It was very well done and put together it seems like each movie that comes out they go back and tell more and more of the back story.
The visual effects were stunning. Very fluid and very smooth…they pretty much stuck with the same creature concepts from previous movies as well. There were a LOT of CG work being done especially with the werewolves (which as supposedly the savage version of a lycan).
The acting was good in most of the movie…the only complaint I had was Nighy (Viktor), he seemed to over act most of his dialogue. Putting too much emphasis into his speech was quite annoying…it was almost like William Shatner on speed.
Overall I quite enjoyed this movie…I would say Underworld 2 would still be my favorite in the series though, Rise of the Lycans would be probably tied with the first film or slightly below it. I rank this film about 3 stars. Some bigger names in the film would have probably helped it…I would definitely see this movie in the theatre…and I’ll probably pick it up when it comes out on DVD as well. Until next time mofo’s…see you at the movies!!
