The Watchmen

“Watchmen” is set in an alternate 1985 America in which costumed superheroes are part of the fabric of everyday society, and the “Doomsday Clock” – which charts the USA’s tension with the Soviet Union – is permanently set at five minutes to midnight. When one of his former colleagues is murdered, the washed up but no less determined masked vigilante Rorschach sets out to uncover a plot to kill and discredit all past and present superheroes. As he reconnects with his former crime-fighting legion – a ragtag group of retired superheroes, only one of whom has true powers – Rorschach glimpses a wide-ranging and disturbing conspiracy with links to their shared past and catastrophic consequences for the future. Their mission is to watch over humanity… but who is watching the Watchmen?”

I don’t know much about The Watchmen…I grew up reading comic books but I never stumbled across this graphic novel…not even a little bit. So, not knowing much about the film, I thought/heard that the movie would be pretty sweet…boy was I wrong…it was EPIC! Probably the best movie I’ve seen in a while. I was awe inspired.

The plot, basically your typical, bad guy tries to knock off some costumed heroes…MAJOR plot twists here, nothing I’m going to spoil but just when you think you know what’s going on…it flips on you…awesome way to keep my attention and entertained. Not much I can write about in this section…you’ll just have to go see it. Definitely not intended for children…definitely rated R and probably should have almost earned a NC-17 rating…a few sex scenes and a LOT of gore.

The visual effects were amazing…I mean I’m pretty speechless…definitely made this film more epic that it was in IMAX. The broad range of the soundtrack was also awesome…some songs played at the right time made some scenes hilarious. Very fluid movement when it came to the visual effects, some scenes you couldn’t tell if they were CG or wire effects. I’m a fan of gore and there was sure a LOT of it…from Doc Manhatten blowing people up (seeing entrails and rib cages everywhere) to some dude getting his arms cut off by a metal grinder. I agree with Boston though, the only thing that could have made this movie better…would be less of the blue swinging weiner lol. Yes, parents, be aware…full frontal “god-like” being nudity.

The acting was exceptional as well…as mentioned before, I was entertained throughout the entire flick. If it can keep Boston’s attention for 3 hours, then it must be good.

Overall…I’m pulling out the stops here…I’m easily ranking this film a 4…highest ranking I can give. The only other time I’ve done this was with The Dark Knight. You MUST go see this film…ESPECIALLY at IMAX. No if’s, and’s, or but’s about it. I might even go see it again actually, it was THAT awesome.
