“Shelley Darlington has lived at the Playboy mansion for the last nine years. She is Hef’s favorite and acts like a den mother to the other girls. On her birthday, she is unceremoniously evicted from Hef’s pad for ‘being too old.’ Homeless and without essential skills, Shelley wanders around L.A. until she finds a new job–the housemother at the most unpopular sorority on campus.”
I went into seeing this movie with a gross disappointment, already having a sucky review written out for it in my head…I’m not an Anna Faris fan whatsoever (Scary Movie, Just Friends), stupid comedy just doesn’t appeal to me. This movie was slightly different, granted some of the movie did have some points to where I was slightly bored because they tried too hard with making a joke, however there were some parts that did make me laugh out loud.
The plot of the movie was basically Shelley (Anna Faris) gets “kicked out” of the Playboy mansion and takes over as a house mother in a sorority house. Not much to write home about on this one…basically she turns the house around in order to attempt to save it from a rival sorority.
The comedy aspect was similar to some of Adam Sandler’s movies however this one I would have to rank at the bottom of every movie he’s done…while it does have it’s moments of hilarity it just pales in comparison to anything else he’s ever done. It could just be me because as I had mentioned I’m not a fan of Anna Faris whatsoever (even if they pumped her lips full of collagen) she seems like she tries too hard no matter what role she’s in. The funniest thing I thought about the movie was American Idol contestant Katherine McPhee (the pregnant girl) tried her hand at acting and didn’t do that bad of a job (She was in the season with Chris Daughtry and Taylor Hicks)
Overall I would have to rank this movie about 2 1/2 martini glasses…while it does have it’s moments of laughing out loud a bit there are too many moments of just stupid comedy where they try too hard to get you to laugh, at times I just wanted those moments to be over with. I wouldn’t recommend going to see this at the theatre…possibly waiting for it on DVD…if you have nothing better to watch…even better if you have a free rental.
Until next time mofo’s…see you at the movies!!
