Record Store Day

April 17th is Record Store Day!!!

Record Store Day was conceived by Chris Brown, employee of the independent record store chain, Bull Moose, located in Maine and New Hampshire and was founded in 2007 by Eric Levin, Michael Kurtz, Carrie Colliton, Amy Dorfman, Don Van Cleave and Brian Poehner as a celebration of the unique culture surrounding over 700 independently owned record stores in the USA, and hundreds of similar stores internationally. Record Store Day is celebrated the third Saturday in April.

Record Store Day is the one day that all of the independently owned record stores come together with artists to celebrate the art of music. Special vinyl and CD releases and various promotional products are made exclusively for the day, and hundreds of artists in the United States and in various countries across the globe make special appearances and performances. Festivities include performances, cook-outs, body painting, meet and greets with artists, parades, and DJs spinning records.

Indianapolis is no different.
Luna Music, Indy CD and Vinyl, and even Love Vinyl Records (the city’s ONLY “underground” record store) have something up their sleeves this year to go with some crazy specials and deals for those who love music.

Luna Music has a full day of festivities scheduled at their Broad Ripple location. Special guests include local musicians Gray Granite, Beta Male, and Jookabox – with DJ’s on the outside, such as IndyMojo’s own Slater Hogan, alongside Rusty Redenbacher and Action Jackson….and much much more.

Broad Ripple’s other slinger of music, Indy CD and Vinyl, has a fiesta of their own scheduled to celebrate the occasion, with performances by Slothpop, Burnt Ones, and Thunders, to name a few.
