Pineapple Express

Lazy stoner Dale Denton has only one reason to visit his equally lazy dealer Saul Silver: to purchase weed, specifically, a rare new strain called Pineapple Express. But when Dale becomes the only witness to a murder by a crooked cop and the city’s most dangerous drug lord, he panics and dumps his roach of Pineapple Express at the scene. Dale now has another reason to visit Saul: to find out if the weed is so rare that it can be traced back to him. And it is. As Dale and Saul run for their lives, they quickly discover that they’re not suffering from weed-fueled paranoia; incredibly, the bad guys really are hot on their trail and trying to figure out the fastest way to kill them both. All aboard the Pineapple Express.

This was probably the funniest movie I’ve seen in such a long time. I went into it with fairly low expectations…I thought it would be similar to Superbad (don’t get me wrong I enjoyed Superbad), however this movie was far more hilarious in comparison.

The plot of the movie was fairly simple…guy witnesses murder, bad guys try to kill him. It’s been done many times before and this would probably be one of my complaints of the movie. Nothing I’ll go into more detail about but once again…nothing complex just a very simple plot line.

The acting in the movie was pretty good…there were some parts that didn’t really impress me…you can tell that a good majority of the movie was improvisation which I saw hurt and helped the movie at the same time as it added to some of the hilarity. James Franco did a good job playing the “good drug dealer”, he was very convincing as a stoner, I haven’t seen him in many comedies but he did a very good job. Seth Rogan…wow…he’s Seth Rogan, just funny period. This movie won’t win any huge awards…due to the content, however definitely one of the funniest movies I’ve seen in a LONG time. Yes I’d say better than Superbad.

There weren’t too many visual effects in the movie however there were a lot of scenes that cracked me up that were done very well. A lot of slapstick humor…A LOT of slapstick humor haha.

Overall, for this genre it made it’s point. Straight COMEDY, it was hilarious. I struggled with the rating on this one, but I’m going to have to bump it up to 3 1/2 glasses. I was going to go with 3 due to the weak plot line, however the comedy really made up for it. So we have 3 1/2 out of 4 martini glasses, definitely a must see at the theatres.

Well that’s it mofo’s until next time…see you at the movies!!
