New Weekly: Get Down@The Red Room every Thursday

Braving the whopping few inches of snow, as well as frigid temperatures, a small group of us ascended on Taylor Norris and Ben Wu’s new weekly event at the Red Room, “Get Down”.

With No cover, blood warming drinks specials ($0.50 draft, $1.50 domestic bottles, $3.00 Well Drinks, $3.50 Smirnoff, Captain Morgan, $4.00 Jager and Cherry Bombs), and word that the BCS National Championship game would be shown on their TV’s, we weren’t going to let a few snowflakes keep us away.

As we walked up the snow-filled street leading up to the Red Room, we could hear the light thump of the subs from upstairs, letting us know we were in the right place.

Once we climbed the mountainous level of stairs and entered the room, we were greeted by much warmer air and a fairly large gentlemen asking for our ID’s.

Scanning a room that wasn’t familiar to me at all, I noticed this place was nothing like any other bar in Broad Ripple. It had a very nice lounge setting with tables, chairs, couches, decent sized bar, with a wide open floor space and the DJ in the corner working his magic.

We were quickly greeted by our gracious hosts, Taylor and Ben, and we discussed how much we liked the layout of the bar, as well as the quality of sound in the room.

For you speaker junkies, it had a nice thump to it that made you want to shake it shake it shake it butt naked. But not so overwhelming that you couldn’t carry on a conversation. I hate having to shout into peoples’ ears all night and not being able to speak the next day.

Special guest DJ’s this week were Sneaky and Adajai, both out of Fort Wayne and part of the Infamous Detroit Techno group: Bang Tech 12.

What a way to kick off this new venture.

Looking at January’s flyer, there appears to be quite an array of guests/genres coming this month. Definitely something to get excited about.

Quality sound, impressive atmosphere, NO COVER, some of the best drink specials I’ve seen in this city, and let’s not forget some of the area’s top DJ’s……make me want to Get Down every Thursday at The Red Room.
