“Sara and Brian Fitzgeralds life with their young son and their two-year-old daughter, Kate, is forever altered when they learn that Kate has leukemia. The parents only hope is to conceive another child, specifically intended to save Kates life. For some, such genetic engineering would raise both moral and ethical questions; for the Fitzgeralds, Sara in particular, there is no choice but to do whatever it takes to keep Kate alive. And what it takes is Anna. Kate (Sofia Vassilieva) and Anna (Abigail Breslin) share a bond closer than most sisters: though Kate is older, she relies on her little sisterin fact, her life depends on Anna.”
At first I didn’t want to see this film…however after some coaxing I caved and ended up watching. Figured it was just going to be one of those “boo hoo” chick flicks that I wanted nothing to do with. Well, I was a bit surprised. I was a good movie actually.
The plot can best be summed up as two parents basically conceive a genetic match of their daughter for “spare parts”. I was morally disturbed by the movie. How can parents actually have a child to use for the purpose of saving their other daugther. Essentially the daugther sees a lawyer about suing her parents for medical emancipation. I won’t go into further details.
The acting was exquiste, very well done. A guaranteed “tear jerker” as many around me were balling uncontrollably. Napkins once used to wipe greasy popcorn from the fingers were quickly transferred to cheeks and eyes to wipe the flowing water works from faces. Won’t lie, I possibly shed a tear myself (yeah yeah yeah).
Overall I was rather entertained by the movie and will give it 3 out of 4 for this one…could possibly watch it again, but doubtful I’d pay to see it twice, however don’t over look this film, it is a must see.
