IndyMojo’s 4.20 Holiday Showcase

April 20th or “4.20” has evolved into a counterculture holiday, where people gather to celebrate a plant called Cannabis. In some locations this celebration coincides with Earth Week. At events in the United States, it is common to hear about Abraham Lincoln, one of many American politicians known for past use of Cannabis, who wrote that one of his “favorite things” was “smoking a pipe of sweet hemp”.

Some events may have a political nature to them, advocating for the decriminalization of non-medical Cannabis in the United States, but most have evolved into a celebration of Live Music.

Commonly thought to be a “Police Code”, the term “4.20” originated from a group of teenagers at San Rafael High School in San Rafael, California, United States in 1971. The teens would meet after school at 4:20 p.m. to smoke Cannabis.

Like any substance, Marijuana can be abused. The most common problem attributed to Marijuana is frequent overuse, which can induce lethargic behavior (Twinkies), but does not cause serious health problems. Marijuana can cause short-term memory loss, but only while under the influence. Marijuana does not impair long-term memory. Marijuana does not lead to harder drugs. Marijuana does not cause brain damage, genetic damage, or damage the immune system.

Unlike alcohol, Marijuana does not kill brain cells or induce violent behavior.

Neither does

Adam Jay
Since 2002 Adam Jay has taken the global techno scene by the throat with continuous output on the most respected labels worldwide. Nicknamed “Dupstep Jesus”, this messiah of Drum & Bass is arguably the most prolific Dubstep DJ in Indianapolis. A Juztapoze regular, Psynapse is “perfect” for a 4.20 event.

Jackola’s musical style is eclectic to say the least. You may catch him playing dance rock and fidget house between bands at a concert, or spinning funky house or tech house in other atmospheres. DJ Deanne is all about the big beats, strong synths, dramatic arrangements and soulful sprinkling of vocals that come from a combination of tech, electribal and progressive house. This is sure to be an interesting battle of feel good beats from a pair of Indy’s best!
