April 20th or “4.20” has evolved into a counterculture holiday, where people gather to celebrate a plant called Cannabis. In some locations this celebration coincides with Earth Week. At events in the United States, it is common to hear about Abraham Lincoln, one of many American politicians known for past use of Cannabis, who wrote that one of his “favorite things” was “smoking a pipe of sweet hemp”.
Some events may have a political nature to them, advocating for the decriminalization of non-medical Cannabis in the United States, but most have evolved into a celebration of Live Music.
Commonly thought to be a “Police Code”, the term “4.20” originated from a group of teenagers at San Rafael High School in San Rafael, California, United States in 1971. The teens would meet after school at 4:20 p.m. to smoke Cannabis.
Like any substance, Marijuana can be abused. The most common problem attributed to Marijuana is frequent overuse, which can induce lethargic behavior (Twinkies), but does not cause serious health problems. Marijuana can cause short-term memory loss, but only while under the influence. Marijuana does not impair long-term memory. Marijuana does not lead to harder drugs. Marijuana does not cause brain damage, genetic damage, or damage the immune system.
Unlike alcohol, Marijuana does not kill brain cells or induce violent behavior.
Neither does IndyMojo.com.
