Heartburn medication causing fractures

Common over the counter medications and prescription medications are associated with higher risk of fracture in the wrist, spine, and hip. Exactly what the cause of this side effect is undetermined, but the FDA is pushing to have this warning put of the bottles of these drugs. The included drugs are proton pump inhibitors including Nexium (esomeprazole), Dexilant (dexlansoprazole), Prilosec and Zegerid (omeprazole), Prevacid (lansoprazole), Protonix (pantoprazole), and Aciphex (rabeprazole). If you have any further questions or concerns ask your physician. This is another one of those incidents where is good to look at the benefit-to-risk ratio for each personal case.
