For the most part my weekend rocked. Friday was tough because that was my grandfather’s funeral. It was nice to put closure to everything. After that, I had to head into work because it was my last day with Northwestern Mutual. That in itself was good. I’m really excited about my new job. (I had a great first day btw.) Friday night my friend Betheny came over and we had pizza and beer and talked about men.

Saturday I slept in and lounged around. In the afternoon I drove down to Greenwood to Mark’s house and we headed to Oldenburg. Every year they have a German festival called Freudenfest. German food and beer…good times! They had accordian players and German dancers… it was so cool! I met some of Mark’s friends and hung out with his family. Lots of fun.

Yesterday I pretty much just relaxed and got myself ready for my first day on the new job. It was beautiful the entire weekend so I took advantage of that.

So that in a nutshell is why my weekend was awesome.

My grandfather passed away yesterday morning. He had lung cancer which he had been fighting for a couple of years. Watching him suffer from that makes me never want to touch a cigarette. He was 74, just two days shy of his 75 birthday. The viewing will be tomorrow and the funeral will be Friday. The timing stinks. This is my last week of work and I start my new job on Monday. I feel bad that I’ve had to take some time off this week, but what can I do? Family comes first and they are more important to me than my job.

I made it back safe and sound. California was insanely hot. We’re talking highs of 110 degrees. I had a ton of fun though. Wednesday we had a cook out and hung out by the pool. Thursday we went off roading and hung out by the pool. Friday we went to Hollywood. I saw a high speed chase on the way there. We also saw Bob Barker. Very cool. I think he’s bored since he retired. Our tour guide said he sees him outside of his house hanging out three or four times a day.

Saturday was the 100th birthday party. My great-grandpa really enjoyed it. It was great to see him and other family members who I either hadn’t seen in a while or had never met. On the way home from the party we almost got stuck on the freeway due to a fire. It took us three hours to get back to the house. On the way back to the airport Sunday morning we saw the remains of the fire. It smelled pretty nasty too.

So that’s the short and sweet of the trip. I have a ton of pictures which I’ll post later on.

By this time tomorrow I will be airborn and on my way to California. The temperature there tomorrow is going to be a high of 107. I’m going to have to be sure and pack plenty of sunscreen and tank tops.

I’m really hoping that I will get to leave work early. Typically right before a holiday our downtown office closes around 3. If they close then we’ll most likely close too. I’m keeping my fingers crossed! I have so much to do tonight to get ready so getting to leave early would be helpful. Plus I have to get up at 3:15 tomorrow morning so I can leave my apartment by 4:15. Joy.

In other news, I weighed myself this morning and have lost a total of 31 pounds since January. Woo-hoo!

Have a safe and happy Fourth of July! Eat some hotdogs and enjoy some fireworks!

I leave for California on Wednesday. I can’t wait! My great-grandfather turns 100 on July 7 so we’re heading out there to celebrate. Of course we’ll do all the typical touris things in LA. Plus we’ll get to spend time with family who I either haven’t met or rarely get to see. It’ll be a great trip. I’m sure I’ll have lots of pictures to post when I return.
