What are you playing over your summer vacation? Rock Band 2? Pish! That’s so 2009.

This is the rundown of all the games you may have missed this year but should defiantly hit up to kill some time.

5. Bioshock 2

The amazing follow up to 2007’s game of the year drops you back into the sea and into the diving suit of the Big Daddy. This first person shooter set the bar pretty high for graphics and unique storylines. Not only do you battle it weapons like rivet guns and giant drills but you also have access to Raptures weird genetic altering abilities like shooting fire from your hands, telepathy, and creating swarms of angry bugs.

My only complaint with this game is it seems much shorter the original but without question this is one gamers should pick up.

Bioshock 2 is available for PS3, Xbox 360, and PCs. Rated M for Mature.

4 . Super Street Fighter 4

The Gang is all here and ready to hyper away the summertime blues. Capcom’s second installment of its Street fighter Reboot proves just as enjoyable the second time around. I’m sure there are lots of combos and awesome moves I could learn if I took the time, but over all its just a good button masher.

Super Street Fighter 4 is available on the 360 and PS3. This game is rated T for Teen.

3. God of War 3

You can’t keep a good Spartan down. Kratos is back to serve Zeus, Poseidon and the rest of the gods a beat down. This game has been much anticipated by PS3 owners for years. The graphics, sound, and game play are all here and accounted for. Fans of the series will not be disappointed in this last chapter of the GOW trilogy. If you are new to the series, the first 2 games are also available on PS3 in a new compilation disc with updated graphics for $29.99

God of War 3 is rated M for mature. Its crazy gory, and I loved every minute.

2. Red Dead Redemption.

This game puts you in the spurs of one John Marston, a reformed outlaw trying to go straight. You are tasked by the federal government to bring in your old gang or never see his wife and young son again. In short it’s like a cross between HBO’s Deadwood and Grand theft Auto.

Red Dead Redemption is available on PS3 and Xbox 360. It’s rated M for horse thieving.

1. Super Mario Galaxy 2

Surprise! Who would ever think I would choose a Mario game to be number one?! I’m told that it is actually now the highest rated video game ever beating out the N64’s The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. (I believe it still holds the title for longest name)

This game doesn’t have a big plot or story. It’s just a lot of fun. Anyone can pick it up, play and enjoy.

New power ups include a cloud power that allows you to create platforms in mid-air, a rock power that turns Mario into a stone wrecking ball, and a drill that allows you to drill through planets and solve puzzles.

Yoshi is along for this adventure as well as B-list plumber, Luigi. Super Mario Galaxy 2 also brings back some of the favorite power ups from the last game like the bee suit, ghost Mario, and fire flowers.

Super Mario Galaxy is a Nintendo Wii exclusive and rated E for Everyone.

Full disclosure; I was pretty much born and raised in the Mushroom Kingdom so my opinion on Mario is what Fox News would refer to as,

Its like Grand Theft Auto with Nazis and Burlesque Dancers.

The thing that really sets ‘The Saboteur’ from other sandbox / open world games is it’s use of color.

Color plays a huge role in the game. As The Saboteur starts, you inter a world almost Frank Miller in style. Completely black and white with harsh flashes of Nazi red piercing the darkness. In order to bring color back to the area, you have to weaken Nazi forces and inspire the people in the city.

You play as Sean, an Irish mechanic turned racer turned resistance fighter. You will scale buildings armed with dynamite destroying Nazi Radio towers, tanks, and supply depots. The more contraband you destroy, the more vehicles and weapons will open up for your disposal.

I really like the games style, but the game play itself left me expecting a little bit more. There are a few racing missions that involve a very choppy camera. Controlling Sean himself much easier. The hand combat controls are a bit slow, I took a few punches to the face I wish I could have avoided. Another big element to the game is sneaking around similar to ‘Splinter Cell’ or ‘Assassin’s Creed.’

The voice acting is very good as well.

Currently there is only one download available as a game add-on,

Now you don’t have to wait until Wild Wednesday to listen to remixes of your favorite songs…. sadly, you still have to wait for the drink specials. I loves me some $2 Long Islands.

From the makers of ‘Guitar Hero’ comes ‘DJ Hero.’ Available now for Wii, PS3, Xbox 360 and the PS2.

This time around we trade in our strumming for scratching with a handy new turn table controller which is available in a standard set or a special ‘Renegade’ edition featuring Jay-z and Eminem. The Renegade version comes complete with a carrying case that doubles as a stand to place the turntable on. I sprang for the standard edition and would strongly recommend the upgrade.

The gameplay is pretty much what you’ve come to expect from the Activism Rhythm games. All your basic guitar game play has been transformed to a turntable where you are expected to mash up 2 artists at a time.

One thing I really liked about this title was the co-op mode where and additional player can pick up a Guitar Hero controller (sold separately) and have a jam session. There are also a few download track packs available online, but I wouldn’t expect weekly downloads like ‘Guitar Hero’ receives any time soon.

Aside from the fun characters invented for the game, other playable characters feature a history lesson in song mixing; DJ AM, Grandmaster Flash and even Jazzy Jeff.

The Guitar Hero signature Star power has been replaced by Euphoria. When the power becomes ready a light begins blinks on the turntable. I love this feature, as I can never seem to activate star power with a guitar without swinging it violently and loosing my note streak.

DJ Hero came out in October, and I’m a little surprised it didn’t sell better during the holidays. It’s fast paced and can be played by a beginner or an expert. It might not be worth the hefty $100+ price tag but its certainly worth trying out.

All and all I give it a 3 out of 5

One of the very first things I look for when finding a new game is a hot female main character… I figure if I’m going to stare at an ass for a considerable about of time, it should be an attractive one. If that was the ONLY principle I looked for, Bayonetta would be the best game EVER.

This game is a button mashing extravaganza available for both PS3 and 360 from the same guys that brought you

A few weeks back, all my little Xbox 360 friends were playing “Borderlands” available for the 360 and PS3. Since I like to be included, i decided to pick it up to play along.

The game is more or less a first person shooter with some elements of an RPG…. The more bad guys and tasks you preform, the higher level your character obtains. This allows you equip some extra little skills for example maybe you can fire a gun faster or you can electrocute a dude when you punch him.

There are lots of little side missions… kill 50 giant space bugs, find 15 journal entries etc.

For the most part this game is fun, the graphics are cool in a comic almost cel shaded sort of way. There are currently 2 downloadable game add-ons which both unique.
